WHAT IS F1 IN SCHOOLS CHALLENGE?
According to the F1 website, the competition is open to Form 4 students to design and manufacture carbon dioxide powered model racing cars. It was introduced to train students to plan their business, research, design, produce, test and race the F1 prototype cars.
When introduced in Malaysia, the competition was only open to those in the Klang Valley - the following year, it was extended while from the third year, to Sabah and Sarawak, 2009 is the third year that Sarawak has participated in the competition.
This year (2009), only Sarawak is holding full competitions where all teams race against each other. Online submission is for those in Perlis, Kedah, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Pahang, Terengganu and Sabah. Only Negeri Sembilan is doing portfolio and presentation.
The competition has two categories - automatic trigger and time trigger. For time trigger, one team member has to press the trigger to pierce the carbon dioxide cartridge to push the car forward.
Top two teams in Sarawak would represent the state in national level to be held in November 2009. The winner at the national level will represent the country at the international level of the competition.
Cost for a team is around RM5000 including materials for the cars, T-shirt for the team members, exhibition ,materials and some limited edition merchandise to be sold at the exhibition booth. This excluded the transportation, food and accomodation when competing at the national level.
BLAZIN'BEAT will be representing Sarawak at national level , which will be held at Sunway Lagoon. BLAZIN'BEAT is looking for sponsorship to cover the expenses for the national level which includes flight tickets for it's 6 team members, food and accomodation (3 days). Please note that, participants and their team members have to source for their own fund to cover the expenses for the F1 in Schools Challenge. This is part of the objective of the programme whereby the participants are exposed to the business such as promoting their model cars and marketing.

RESEARCH, DESIGN, ANALYSE, MAKE, TEST & RACE
Research,Design Analyse, Make, Test & Race
RESEARCH Students conduct background research on theories and information to help them design their F1 car of the future.
DESIGN Students design a car model using 3D CAD SolidEdge software from USA. F1 Team in Schools Malaysia recommends SolidEdge CAD Software, an academic license of this industrial engineering design software product is provided to schools register here for MOE approval.
ANALYSE Students can analyse the properties of their model before manufacture. The Virtual Wind Tunnel software processes the aerodynamics of the car straight from the CAD file.
MAKE The car design is converted into CNC code using CAM software. F1 Team International in Schools recommends EdgeCAM F1, The car is then manufactured using a Denford CNC Microrouter.
TEST The manufactured car will be put into a mini wind-tunnel for physical aerodynamic test.
RACE The student teams race their finished car to battle out on who has the fastest and most attractive car.
